Palm-to-TNC Wiring |
Return to pocketAPRS Home Page
Here are a few diagrams that might be helpful to getting your pocketAPRS setup up and running:
NOTE: The unique port connector for Palm devices is, to our knowledge, not available as a separate item which can be purchased as a component. Diagrams showing the Palm connector wired directly presume that the connector has been removed from a 3Com HotSync or Palm Modem cable.
3Com Palm Modem Cable (p/n 10111U) to TNC with DB-25
No adapter is required. Should work as-is. Availability alert: the Palm Modem Cable has been discontinued by 3Com. Fortunately, there is a new alternative available from New World Technologies, http://www.nwt.com/. They have started carrying the Swann Communications (of Australia) line of Palm cables for the Palm III, which has both HotSync and modem cables. The Swann Palm Modem Cable should be the functional equivalent of 3Com p/n 10111U.
A modem cable is not available for the Palm V. See the "Frequently Asked Questions" page for additional information.

Note that this "null modem" wiring is only for use with pocketAPRS and TNCs. Additional pins may need to be carried through for other software or hardware.
Below is a diagram showing pinouts for the Palm device as they relate to the 2.5mm stereo plug used for the D7 data ports. Drawing courtesy 3Com, with D7-specific modifications by Joe, N0OTM. Indicated colors correspond to available preassembled mini-stereo connector cables, which includes the one supplied with the TH-D7.
