As a Shortwave Radio Listener the thing that infuriated me most was the inconsistent signal quality. Loss of sidebands often made radio stations un-listenable. Electrical noise made listening very tiresome. Then came DAB and all was forgiven. Whilst the quality of the audio still varies at least its consistant. Many engineers have decried DAB as being nothing more than webcast quality. What they failed to understand is that its constistently that way which in itself is a vast improvement on the old analogue systems.
Over these pages I shall chronicle my adventures with DAB. Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is a means of transmitting an audio source like a radio station over the air in a digital format. This should lead to a better sound quality as well as a wider choice for the audience.
