The Cotswold Marathon
7th February - 8th February 1998Every know and again you have a fit of peak. You don't recognise it at the time but it's very obvious to onlookers. What to
others would seem like a lunatic idea to you looks like the best idea you've had to date.
The Cotswold Marathon is one such fit of peak! It's not a Marathon in the traditional sense. It's a night hike through the
Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. It's a 2 stage event for both Scouts and Venture Scouts/Leaders. The Scouts have it easy, they
are expected to complete 18 miles before 0300hrs whereas the Ventures/Leaders are expected to complete 38 miles before
1030hrs on the Sunday. Its quite a feat when you consider that the start time is anywhere between 1700hrs and 1900hrs on
the Saturday. The event gets its 'Marathon' label because of the height climbed over the full course - 3 times that of Snowdon!!!This year was the 3rd time I have taken part. I went with the Scouts and Ventures whom are going to Switzerland as part of
the 19th World Jamboree next February (1999) in an attempt to raise funds for the trip.No photo's are available yet. As soon as I have collected them from the other Leaders I shall publish them here.Notice that they have spelled my name wrong on my papers! | |
