The Scouts set off up the mountain
Rise at 'sparrows fart' (0500) and prepare to take the hill. Its still dark outside. Our plan is to be on the mountain at first light and then be down by lunch time for our drive to Scafell Pike.

Weather started to close in about half way up making
visibility very difficult then we hit the snow line. We plodded through making good time but the weather got worse and the snow got icier. We were not equipped with the correct gear for the kind of ice and snow we were encountering so, at about 500mtrs from the top, a decision was made to pull the scouts off the mountain. Not a popular decision but in light of the dangers and the worsening weather conditions it was the correct one. |
| In this picture you can see the scouts sitting in the snow.
These boys were about 5 meters in front of me when I took this photo - the foggy picture
is a result of the dense cloud we were walking in! We all made it safely down the mountain and back to the caravan for a well earned cup of tea and learned that we would not be setting off for Scafell Pike until the morning so me, Bob, Trev 'the Rev' and Trevor Greenaway all sat down to watch the Sound Of Music on the TV. How do you solve a problem like Maria? |
